Superfoods

Superfoods offer the perfect natural way to take in the nutrients which are necessary for your health. Cacao, for example, is the richest natural source of magnesium. Hempseeds are the richest source of vegetable protein. And there is no greater source of essential omega-2 fatty acids than chia seeds. Superfoods contain not only two or three ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, aminoacids etc., they actually contain twelve or even more!

1)BOURBON VANILLA
Vanilla (vanilla planifolia) is the only orchid fruit produced by more then 35.000 orchid varieties around the world. Orchids are the largest family of flowering plants in the world. Orchids are breatharian plants just surviving on air and moisture alone. No wonder vanilla is so very special ! The vanilla plant has unique growth characteristics. Matured vine bears deep trumpet-shaped flowers. The flowers open only for one day and are naturally pollinated either by the melipona bee or long beaked humming birds.
Being the second most expensive spice in the world these days vanilla has a long history of various uses, from flavour, to medicinal to libido enhancer.
Vanille
Already the Aztecs used vanilla in their chocolate drinks for flavour and if we look deeper into the alchemy of plants, vanilla is a female energy and cacao a male. They have been known as divine lovers ever since !
It was even described in 1700 by doctors as a tincture or infusion to enable male potency.
Vanilla is extremely useful in fighting infections due to presence of components like Eugenol and Vanillin Hydroxybenzaldehyde in it. Because of it sedative properties, it is known to work against inflammation.
In addition vanilla is a great anti-oxidant, fighting off free radicals.
Vanilla is an anti-depressant as well. The sweet-smelling vanilla can work wonders to soothe your jittered nerves. Vanillin Hydroxybenzaldehyde, a component of vanilla essential oil, is an effective anti-depressant and mood up-lifter. So, next time you feel low, just go and grab a vanilla tea or smoothie!

2)CINNAMON
Cinnamon is a small tree that grows in India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Brazil, Vietnam, and Egypt.
It’s one of the oldest known spices. To prepare it, the bark of the cinnamon tree is dried and rolled into cinnamon sticks, also called quills. Cinnamon can also be dried and ground into a powder. The health benefits of cinnamon are countless. You can say cinnamon is a superherb.It stabilizes bloodsugar, so great for diabetes, has an anti-clotting effect on the blood, can relief arthtritis and when added to food can inhibit bacterial growth. Also it is a great source of manganese, fiber, iron and calcium. In traditional Chinese medicine, Cassia cinnamon is used for colds, flatulence, nausea, diarrhea, and painful menstrual periods. It’s also believed to improve energy, vitality, and circulation and be particularly useful for people who tend to feel hot in their upper body but have cold feet.
In?Ayurveda, cinnamon is used as a remedy for diabetes, indigestion, and colds, and it is often recommended for people with the?kapha?Ayurvedic type.
It’s a common ingredient in chai tea, and it is believed to improve the digestion of fruit, milk and other dairy products.
Although there are four main varieties of cinnamon, Ceylon cinnamon and Cassia cinnamon are the most popular. Ceylon cinnamon is sometimes called true cinnamon. It is more expensive and has a sweet taste. The quills are softer and can be easily ground in a coffee grinder. Ceylon cinnamon is sold in specialty stores. Most cinnamon sold in supermarkets in North America comes from the less expensive variety, Cassia cinnamon. It has a darker color and the quills are harder. Unlike Ceylon cinnamon, it can’t be easily ground into a powder using a coffee grinder.
3)LUCUMA
Lucuma is a fruit which originates from the highlands of Peru and Ecuador and is a member of the sapote family. The yellow-orange flesh was also known as “Inca gold” because of its exceptional characteristics. In Peru lucuma ice cream is more popular than vanilla or chocolate. The fruit is dried to a powder which, because of its creamy structure, is ideal for use in smoothies, puddings and ice cream. It has a sweet aroma and a delicate taste reminiscent of maple syrup.
Lucuma is rich in fibres, vitamins and minerals and contains niacine (B3), beta carotene and iron. Because lucuma has a low glycemic index, it is suitable for diabetics.
4)MACA
Our Almond/Fig chocolate contains a hidden food: dried maca root powder. The maca root only grows at altitudes of between 3,000 and 4,500 meters in the Peruvian Andes and has learned to adapt to the extreme weather conditions there, from freezing cold ice to mercilessly hot sun.
Maca is extremely rich in valuable nutrients. It contains lots of amino acids, including lysine and arginine (which have a positive influence on male and female fertility). Maca also contains high levels of calcium, magnesium and potassium, as well as iron, silicium and traces of iodine, manganese, zinc, copper and sodium, vitamins B1 (thiamine), B2 (fiboflavine) and C (ascorbic acid).
Maca is a veritable treasure trove of healthy nutrients – too many to mention individually. It is used to regulate the female hormone system (PMS), to increase male libido, to counteract tiredness and anaemia, and to strengthen the immune system. It is an adaptogen, which means that it regulates that which is required in the body at that moment.
Because maca also increases ‘that loving feeling’, we cannot leave it out of Lovechock.
5)GOJIBERRIES
Goji berries (Lyceum Barbarum and Lyceum Chinensis) grow in China, Mongolia and Tibet. According to traditional Chinese medicine, goji berries possess all manner of healing powers. The berries contain a richness of healthy nutrients:
* 19 amino acids ( they are therefore a complete protein source)
* the 6?essential fatty acids
* 21 trace elements such as zinc, iron and copper
* polysacharides (long sugar chains, good for bolstering the immune system)
* many antioxidants
* HGH : Human Growth Hormone (the youth hormone)

6)INCABERRIES
The Incaberry (Physalis Peruviana) is also known as the golden berry, ground cherry or Cape gooseberry and it comes from the Andes. Incaberries were originally cultivated by the Incas at high altitude . Today they are described as one of the ‘forgotten’ plant species of the Incas.
The Incaberry is true superfruit because it is full of healthy nutrients. Incaberries contain lots of antioxidants, phosphorus, vitamins A, B1, B2, B12 and C. In addition they are very rich in protein (16%) and are therefore very good for vegetarians. They also contain a lot of pectin which stimulates the digestive process. They are low in sugars (7%) and are therefore good for blood sugar.
This golden yellow/orange berry has a fresh sweet-sour taste.

 

7)MULBERRIES
Mulberries are a superfood full of good stuff!
Mulberries are tasting tart, sweet with hints of toffee. Botanically, the berries are obtained from a tree belonging to the of the genus: Morus. ?In Spanish they are known as moras.
Mulberries have been cultivated for more then 5000 years for their various health benefits and great taste. Mulberries are found in four main varieties including red, black, white, and wild mulberries. Though there exist nearly a hundred varieties and thousands of local sub-varieties of mulberry, but you can easily find a mulberry tree almost at any altitude or climate around the world.
Why are mulberries a superfood?
Mulberries are a good source of A and E, iron, potassium, manganese, and magnesium. In addition Mulberries are an excellent source of vitamin-C (36.4 mcg per 100, about 61% of RDI)
They contain high amounts of polyphenol anti-oxidants called anthocyanins. Also they are rich in resveratrol, a potent phytonutrient that is an polyphenol antioxidant, may be a tool in one’s life extension arsenal. In Chinese medicine, mulberries are considered a blood tonic, meaning that they cleanse the blood and increase its production, strengthening the entire system.
They also contain many other health promoting flavonoid poly phenolic antioxidants such as lutein, zeaxanthin, ?-carotene and α-carotene in small but notably significant amounts. After soaking, our quinoa is sprouted and then dried at low temperatures to preserve it’s nutritional benefits.

Quinoa has a higher protein content than wheat, barley or other major grains. One cup of quinoa has 9 grams, which trumps the protein-rich egg (6 grams). Quinoa, which contains all 8 of the essential amino acids, is a complete protein. That’s why it is a great food for vegetarians !
